Kiss Those Lips Goodbye đź’‹
Hello, my pretty Dolls! I tried something new recently, and I wanted to share my personal experience with you all. This might be something you’ve been thinking about doing yourselves! I know that I have wanted to treat myself to this for AGES!
For the very first time, I got lip filler injections! I went to one of the best Richmond, VA cosmetic surgeons, Travis Shaw! Dr. Shaw has been a POSH PR® client for years, so it was an easy choice to go to someone I know and trust. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s a double board certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon!
Before I dive into the process, I want to tell you Dolls that I believe it’s perfectly fine to get “work” done on yourself! There seems to be a certain taboo about cosmetic surgery, but why should there be? If it's something that makes you feel confident and makes you stand up a little taller, then I say, “Go for it!” We only have one life to live, and I think we deserve to treat ourselves if it makes us feel bolder and brighter!
So last month, I went to see Dr. Shaw’s master injector, Whitney. Whitney made my first lip filler experience incredible. She was informative, educational, clean, precise, and just made me feel so comfortable. I’ll walk you through the steps of my experience:
GAME PLAN
First, Whitney talked me through the game plan (what would happen first, what to expect, aftercare, etc.) She then asked if I had any questions or concerns before proceeding. Personally, I was ready to get started, but if you have questions, write them down and don’t be afraid to ask!
2. BYE-BYE LIPS
Whitney then applied the numbing cream and let it settle in for a bit. While the cream worked its magic, she chatted with me about the details of how she would go about the injections. Once my lips were nice and numb, it was time to say good-bye to my old lips!

3. NEW LIPS - HERE I COME
Next, Whitney inserted the filler. Of course, if it’s your first time, this is going to feel a little weird! Whitney told me that some people will want to touch their lips and massage where they feel it, but you want to refrain as much as possible! She went from the left side of my lips to the right on the top and bottom with several little injections.
To me, the injections felt like intense butterflies quickly trying to fly away! I know, sounds funny, but it all depends on how you handle pain, Dolls!
Now depending on how your body reacts to the injections, your lips may bruise a little. That’s totally normal! From my experience, my lips DID slightly bruise, but it wasn’t bad! After the injections, your lips will be numb, swollen, and feel slightly funny. Within the first 48 hours, the pain may feel at its “worst,” but after you wake up, your lips will be at their fullest!
4. WHATS NEXT, DOC?
Before I headed home, Whitney advised me to sleep elevated so circulation and drainage can go down from the head. She also said that I should take it easy: no exercise for 24 hours, limit salty foods and caffeine, and unfortunately... avoid alcohol! That meant no Champagne for me! Did I follow that rule?? That’s one secret I’ll never tell! Just kidding, Dolls! Doctor’s orders!
5. ALRIGHT CAROLINE, GET TO THE POINT - HOW BAD WAS THE PAIN??
How bad was the pain? Well, I guess you could say my pain tolerance is high because even Whitney said, “Wow, I’ve never had anyone lean into the needle!” It really wasn’t terrible. Overall, on a scale of one to ten, ten being the worst pain ever, I would say it was a two for me! There were two or three pricks that I did not love, but other than that, it was easy to handle. I knew it was temporary and my new lips would be worth it!
6. HELLO NEW LIPS!
After Whitney was finished inserting all of the filler, I could instantly see results! I must say, I was very pleased with my new puckered lips! They looked so natural, enhanced, and plumped! Even though my mouth was numb, I promise you I was smiling my biggest smile on the inside! Honestly, GAME-CHANGING. There’s no going back now!

Again Dolls, I just want to put it out there — just because I tried lip fillers does not mean you have to, too! I believe all Boss Dolls are perfect just the way they are! But hey, if you want to change it up a bit and try something new, I support you! Just remember to do your research and head to your consultation armed with any questions you have!
