POSH ICON: Betsey Johnson

Betsey Johnson is the embodiment of spunk and spirit. This woman did a cartwheel on the runway after beating breast cancer!

Like me, Betsey Johnson was a cheerleader in high school. She loved to dance throughout her life and realized that fashion was the best way to combine her love for drawing with her understanding of the female figure. Her designs are truly works of art!

But this girl wasn’t just a dancer and lipstick lover. She is a hard worker! She graduated at the top of her class at Syracuse and was the youngest fashion designer ever to receive the Coty Fashion Critics Award.

Betsey Johnson is an icon for her carefree spirit. She carved out a distinct niche for herself and slayed at it, living out my mantra that when you are true to yourself, you have no competition! After four decades in the industry, she remains in charge of a brand that truly represents who she is as a woman.

I may not have a “punk” style, but I love how Betsey’s label is unapologetically girly. She and I both love to celebrate all things feminine: lipstick, bright pinks, and ruffles! Not only that, but we both decided to use our lives to lift up other women. She does it with designs that capture the free and feminine spirit. I do it with my fashion, beauty, and lifestyle agency, POSH PR®—and Betsey Johnson was one of my very favorite designers when I started precisely because she was not afraid to do what no one else was doing!

“Like red lipstick on the mouth, my products wake up and brighten and bring the wearer to life, drawing attention to her beauty and specialness, her moods and movements, her dreams and fantasies.”

I LOVE that! Her beauty and specialness. Her moods and movements. Her dreams and fantasies. These are the things that I believe in, and the things that drive me to create space for women business owners and elevate us all to our champagne life!

Let’s raise a glass to the women who are not afraid to be different. Not afraid to be authentic. And not afraid to work hard to pursue their dreams!!
