So, It's Going To Rain On Your Wedding Day...

Luxury wedding planner, The Caroline Doll, talks about wedding mishaps and how to remember the reason for the big day!

Okay, let’s be honest.  As a wedding planner I know that there’s no such thing as a “perfect” wedding.  Something will always come up. Maybe your bump in the road was a misprint on Save-The-Dates, or a bridesmaid that bailed a month before the big day, or the cake melting hours before your reception. Whatever the issue, whatever the level of disaster, SOMETHING will happen and you (or your wedding planner!) will have to handle it.

So, here we are... one day before my “wedding weekend” and I’ll be very honest with you, it hasn't been the smoothest most wonderful experience of my life. But you know what? I’m still getting to marry the love of my life on Sunday!

This is something I have reminded brides over and over through my wedding planning career. What’s the “why” behind your wedding? If your “why” is to have perfectly placed sequin linens and gold chargers with over the top floral centerpieces for all of your guests to awe over, then you might have overlooked the reason for getting married. Take a step back and really remember WHY you are having a wedding. To vow your commitment for the person you want to spend the rest of your life with in front of people that are important to you.

Maybe your wedding planner secretly sews one of your bridesmaids into her dress with dental floss (yes, this really did happen) or does the Heimlich maneuver on your sister before she walks down the aisle for the ceremony because she is choking on a Skittle (don’t worry, Lauren is fine). Despite the chaos that is sure to ensue at some point during wedding planning, you will still be JUST as married at the end of the day. Keep it all in perspective and remember that even if every single thing goes wrong, you are still marrying your soulmate.

It certainly isn't easy, dolls. Every bride dreams of the perfect wedding. But just remember, and I say this as a wedding planner, it isn't about the wedding. It isn't about the party or the flowers or even the dress. It’s about committing to a lifetime with the person you love. Don’t sweat the small stuff and remember, a little rain on your wedding day is good luck!
