This may come as a surprise to you, but I’ve never had a facial — up until this past Tuesday.

I don’t know what it is, but there’s something about having my eyes closed for an entire hour while someone touches my face that didn’t quite appeal to me. I like to see what’s going on at all times! I had made it 30 years without a facial when I met my client Summer who had a vision called Sugar & Hive…

If I'm being honest, I was VERY nervous about the Hydrafacial because I've never received one before! SO glad I gave it a try!

If you haven’t heard of it yet, let me fill you in! Sugar & Hive is a brand new beauty bar right here in Richmond, Virginia, owned by my sweet friend, Summer Layton. I’ve worked with Summer for a few months, building a brand that I’ve become totally OBSESSED with! Summer manages the business side of things while here sister, Maria, is the certified esthetician. It’s been SO much fun working with these two women who have such a vision for how a beauty experience should not only make you look, but how it should make you feel. They’re on a mission to cater to YOUR skin’s needs, to discover the perfect regimen that will make YOUR skin glow. They’re so confident in their ability to deliver on their promise, I decided I’d put my skin in their hands. I went in for my first facial, a Hydrafacial, to be exact!

Maria knows her craft. She knows the end goal is to make you look and feel beautiful, but also knows that the means to that end requires impeccable care and research. For example, before we got started, she asked me if I was on any medication. Totally wasn’t expecting that and really had never thought twice about my medical history when I walk into a beauty salon — but to Summer and Maria, this is a part of the comprehensive experience they offer. She entered the name of my thyroid medication into her computer, checking it against a pre-cautionary list. She was SO thoughtful and professional, talking me through every step of the way.

At the end, Summer came in and started talking to Maria. We discussed how my skin reacted to each process. Then they began customizing how they could make my experience even better for my next visit! Who WOULDN’T want to come back for that?! Ultimately the end result of the Hydrafacial, as Summer explained to me, is to eliminate your need for foundation. For the busy girl who's dream it is to be able to walk out the door with just a a bit of mascara, the Hydrafacial is the answer you've been looking for!

Summer built Sugar & Hive on love — loving what she does, loving all things beauty, and loving the ability to transform a woman’s glow! Concocting the best skin care routine for oneself is an overwhelming process! I can’t wait for my next visit, knowing that Summer and Maria are waiting with the perfect regimen for me.
